Tricon 2014

This year I was invited to attend Huntington's very own Tricon. Tricon is a local comic convention and although small it still brings in people from all over.

So with a paid ticket meant I needed to make a new costume to wear to the event. So being bold I chose one of my favorite characters:

Starfire or Kori
So I didn't have much to make, as you can see. But recent events has left me with no spare cash so it was material around the house type of project.

Materials I used:
Ziplock bags
Duck tape
Hot glue gun
Super glue
Purple sport tees
Silver tape
Bubble gum prizes containers
A wig
Sharpie
Boots
Knee high socks

My friend supplied me with the purple tees and silver tape from his job and got me the sharpies.

The rest was scattered around my apartment.

For her armour I wanted to get as tight as possible so I placed ziplock bags against my skin and went over with duct tape to mold it place.
A lot of duct tape and ziplocks were used in my costume.

The first I did was the gauntlets because it was easy to reach and see.

This took help from my friend since I can't reach my back.

*this costumes totally made me realize that I need a body form to work off*

After the ziplock bags are on than we start with the duct tape.

The collar was hard to do, due to the shape of the shoulders and my neck.

The finish product

After trimming the collar for the prep of covering it with the purple material.

The shoulder pads were easy and went by quickly.

Now I cover the duct tape with the cut bits from the tees and hand sewn onto the form.
Than I cut bits of the silver tape and line the collar.

*i hate that I had to use silver tape to line my creation with tape, but when your broke you don't have the choice to complain*

The finished collar from hand sewing lining with the silver tape.

Than the nail polished painted bubble gum prize containers were added and lined around with tape.

All the duct tape forms were covered with the purple material and I hand sewn them on. It was hard and most of the time my hands would get sweaty and the needle begin getting hard to pull through the tape. I used pliers and everything got easier.

My tits were hard to do,but I wasn't wanting anyone to play with them so I had to do it by looking at my mirror.

I'm not sure if they are still even or the same shape, but they cover my nipples and that was all that mattered.

The gems she has on her suit was tricky. I couldn't figure out what to use to make them. But my friend suggested the containers from the bubble gum machines and it was brilliant. Using a heated knife to cut to shape, I just coated it with nail polish and it was perfect!

Using an old pair of undies as a base or pattern, I worked on the bottoms.

Unfortunately I was running out of the time and I wasn't able to take progress photos of the undies, but it was the second hardest item to do.

Wearing less clothes and the undies being my support which meant that these bottoms had to be secure and covering.

I covered the undies with material but added a thicker border and to do her V structure I added a piece of  material to circle around my back and connect to the front.
Hot gluing the red "gem" to a silver triangle shape tape and attached it to the front.

For the wig, I used my old copper wig and sharpie it red.
My friend was nice enough to do this part while I worked on the rest.

Wanting to have this costume to be 95% made by hand; I decided to make my own body paint.
I found a recipe on line that includes
Corn starch
Baby lotion
Food coloring

You add as much lotion as the amount of paint you need. Than you add as much corn starch as you need it thick. Than finish with food color and stir until just right.

The boots was the worst and last item created.
We were up all night and morning working on the costume. Let me be more clear, I was up all night and morning creating while my friend finished the wig and napped until I needed help with the boots.

But the boots should of been easy but we rushed through it and my friend basically had to put it together while I wore it.

Basically I'm ashamed of the boots and need to totally redo them.

We finished at 6 and I took a nap till 8. I began getting ready and we painted myself orange.

I bought adhesive for my costume, but unfortunately it wasn't sticking. I ended up having to use super glue.

On a side note super glue can be removed with rubbing alcohol.

Also I shouldn't of painted my boobs orange cause it was blocking the glue from setting to my skin and keeping the pasties tight on.

I put on make up and setting spray and then put on my boots.

Originally I had silver tape holding the material all the way to the mid of my tighs, but we had an accident on our way to the con.

Since neither me nor my friend has a car we decided to walk.... In the heat, across town, in the public.

I melted badly!!
My  tigh tape fell off which resulted in me stuffing the eat of the material into my socks, that lie under the shiny purple material.
To top that, my glue was melting off and I almost had a Janet Jackson moment.

Than my paint was melting and cracking off from heat and sweat.

We arrived like a mess, but with excitement for air condition.

I sadly had to say no to a kid for a photo until I fixed myself.
Didn't bring the tape or the paint, but luckily had the super glue.

I went to the bathroom and glued my pasties back on and was ready for mingling and photos.

Here's a photo of my make up
And the final costume.

A lot of people loved my costume and I had to pose with a lot of people.

Through out the day I met amazing people and saw amazing costumes.

Although I was exhausted and my paint was flaking everywhere, I still had a blast!

Here's a photo from marshalleethevampireking Instagram page of me and my friend (red hood) and this awesome couple.

I even enter the costume contest.

I didn't win, but one judge joke that I should stay up on stage for just looks.

It made me happy that everyone loved my costume.

I also got to meet the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man
He was a cutie and super nice.
You can find more photos of the con on his  Facebook page:

The con was a blast and my costume could of been better.

Overall my costume was the cheapest compared to the rest of my creations.

Costume total: $4.50

I only had to buy duck tape and the bubble gum containers.

Well I hope you fellow monster enjoyed my post and look forward to my Disney World post.
